Starting from scratch
So - I'm back to square 1.
I can't run a mile at the moment without my legs turning to lead 😣
I had an unspoken rule that I'd always be able to run 2 miles, straight off, as my minimum baseline for fitness... but as the summer's crept by, the regular potters have slipped by the wayside and the ice creams have come home to roost.
I don't *love* running.
But I do love being able to run.
And I do love the headspace & mental wellbeing it gives me.
At school, I was always the slowest in the 100m. 800 was like some hilarious joke that everyone else was in on... and cross country?!
Ha! Forget it.
See, at school nobody bothered to tell me that exercise was something you could get better at - maybe even enjoy - if you took it slowly and incrementally.
I just assumed it was a form of torture for people like me and always would be - so it was.
Nobody thought to mention the mental health benefits, either. Maybe they just weren't so well understood, back then 🤷🏼♀️
Then in my 20s I did make the effort to get fitter - my eyes being opened to the possibilities and a PLAN, by a book I stumbled across whilst flicking through a magazine.
And it's been something I've stuck with ever since, on and off.
But now I'm back to square 1.
I've dropped below my baseline.
And it's hard! 😅
Starting again can feel daunting, difficult - and let's face it, frustrating, when you know you've been there before.
But all that's needed is to keep putting in the effort, consistently.
To trust in the outcome.
To commit to it like the person who's already SEEN the results that are possible and knows they're on the way...
... not tell myself BS stories about what like 'You're 20 years older now, decline is inevitable, why are you even bothering?'...
... but to be compassionate to the truth of the moment and work with the FACTS rather than the fears - and back myself all the way.
It's the same in business, work, relationships...
Any and every area of life.
You've just got to decide you will - and find the way.
Have you ever had to start again, from scratch?
