The Power of Mental Rehearsal - done well
So far we’ve almost completely avoided talking about what I probably consider to be the MOST important building block of mental wellbeing & good executive function (that’s good thinking, reasoning and doing skills, to you and me).
We talked a while ago about that amazing theta brain state we can get into and how it’s awesome for allowing our brain to process things without us actively thinking and exhausting ourselves and our brains, right? Well there’s an even better state we can get into.
It’s called…SLEEP.
Yes, getting good sleep is the most magical thing we can do for our brains.
When we’re asleep we not only join the dots, learn from our previous experiences and develop new neural connections that help us make more sense of the world and work towards everything we want to create - we also clear out the emotional crap and all the unnecessary sensory information we’ve taken in that causes heightened anxiety levels.
In other words, sleep is where we process and eliminate our stress. And it’s about quality… and quantity.
